The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced that Craig Hardy, 66, of Ashland, was indicted by a federal grand jury for failing to register as a sex offender upon relocating to New York.

According to U.S. Attorney Brian D. Miller, the indictment alleges that from Nov. 3 and continuing to the present, despite being required to register under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act upon relocating to New York, Hardy failed to register his address as required.

This matter was investigated by the United States Marshals Service and the Pennsylvania State Police. Assistant U.S. Attorney Tatum R. Wilson is prosecuting the case.

The maximum penalty under federal law for this offense is 10 years of imprisonment, a term of supervised release following imprisonment and a fine.

A sentence following the finding of guilt is imposed by the judge after consideration of the applicable federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
