The Music Department of Zion United Church of Christ, located at Second and Iron streets, Lehighton, is excited to announce its 16th annual Music Academy, taking place Aug. 9-12, from 6:30-8 p.m. each evening.

This completely free community program is open to children entering kindergarten through 12th grade. Preschool children are also welcome when accompanied by a parent or guardian.

The academy provides a fun, welcoming environment where young people can explore their musical talents, make new friends and experience the joy of creating music together.

Designed for students of all experience levels, the Music Academy offers something for everyone.

Participants may sing in the chorus, perform with the band, experience the excitement of musical theater, create themed crafts and enjoy refreshments each evening.

Whether a child is already involved in school music programs or is discovering music for the very first time, the academy provides an encouraging atmosphere where everyone can participate and grow.

One of the unique features of the academy is its flexibility. Participants are welcome to enjoy every activity offered each evening or simply choose the areas that interest them most.

While attendance each night is encouraged so students can fully experience the program, families are welcome to attend whichever evenings fit their schedules.

This year’s theme is “The Magic of Disney.” Throughout the week, participants will enjoy singing and playing favorite Disney songs, learning music inspired by beloved animated classics, participating in Disney-themed activities and games, and creating crafts that celebrate the magic, imagination and adventure of Disney.

The Music Academy is made possible through the support of members of Zion UCC’s Chancel Choir and other friends of the music ministry, whose donations allow every child to participate at no cost.

The academy will conclude Aug. 12 at 7 p.m. with a special showcase for family and friends.

Participants will present selections they have learned throughout the week, display their crafts, and those wishing to do so may perform solos, duets, or small ensemble selections.
