The Carbon County Republican Committee held its reorganization meeting recently at the Bowmanstown Rod and Gun Club, where committee members elected a new leadership team to guide the organization into the 2026 election cycle.

Jason Frey, former Franklin Township supervisor, was elected chairman, succeeding Lee Becker, who served as chairman for the past 11 years and helped strengthen and grow the Carbon County Republican Committee.

Joining Frey on the executive committee are Alicia Kupec of Summit Hill, elected vice chair; Kayla Herman of Jim Thorpe, elected treasurer; and Lexi Merkel of Palmerton, elected secretary.

Frey recently received the endorsement of U.S. Rep. Ryan Mackenzie, who praised both Becker’s service and Frey’s leadership.

“Lee Becker’s commitment helped strengthen the Carbon County Committee and laid the groundwork for future success,” said Mackenzie, whose District 7 includes Carbon County. “We’re excited to see Jason Frey step up to continue leading and strengthening Carbon County Republicans. He has my support as we work to build on our success.”

Frey expressed his appreciation to Becker for his years of leadership and dedication to the Republican Party and the residents of Carbon County.

“Lee has devoted countless hours to strengthening the Republican Party in Carbon County,” Frey said. “For 11 years, he worked to lead in a manner that exemplified conservative values, truth, honesty and transparency. I am grateful for his leadership, dedication and commitment to our committee. The strong foundation he has built will continue to benefit Republicans throughout Carbon County for years to come.”

In addition to electing officers, committee members from across the county elected area chairs to help coordinate local efforts and strengthen grassroots engagement. Those elected include Bryan Smith for the Panther Valley area; Ty Poole for the Lehighton area; Kellie Heffley for the Palmerton area; and James Nelson for the Jim Thorpe area.

At this time, no area chair has been elected for the Weatherly area. As additional committee members are appointed in the future, the committee intends to seek representation and elect an area chair for Weatherly.

Frey said he looks forward to working with the newly elected officers, area chairs, committee members, elected officials, volunteers and supporters to continue building a strong Republican organization throughout Carbon County.

“It is an honor to have earned the confidence of my fellow committee members,” Frey said. “Our focus will be on strengthening our grassroots efforts, supporting Republican candidates, engaging voters and building upon the successes our party has achieved. With a strong team in place and the support of Republicans throughout the county, we are well-positioned for the elections ahead.”

While not seeking reelection as chairman, Becker will remain active within the committee and continue contributing to its ongoing success.
