Ice cream social

The Mahoning Township Lions Club will hold an ice cream social from 4:30-7:30 p.m. on Aug. 12 at the Normal Square Pavilion.

There will be hamburger and chicken barbecue, hot dogs, sundaes and waffles, and ice cream.

St. Matthew’s

First Saturday Quiet Communion worship at Trinity Lutheran Church, 175 S. Third St., Lehighton, begins at 4 p.m. Sunday worship with Holy Communion begins at 9:30 a.m. Licensed Lay Minister Kathy Long presides.

Church initiatives:

The Food Pantry is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays (and third Tuesday from 5:30-7 p.m.) with an outdoor drive-up setting. Residents who reside in the Lehighton Area School District are eligible to receive supplemental food. Participants must remain in their vehicle at time of pick up. Pantry volunteers will assist pedestrians/those not in vehicles.

Trinity Thrift Store hours this week are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday; and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday and Saturday. Cash only sales. The store is not accepting donations of clothing or household goods during renovations. The store will be closed Aug. 3 for three weeks for renovations. Looking ahead: The blessing for nurses, medical workers, first responders on the Commemoration Day of Florence Nightingale during worship time on Aug. 16. During the Aug. 23 worship time is blessing of the backpacks and a children’s message before the school year begins.
