Franklin Township supervisors handed out their annual contribution to the Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Company.

The board on Tuesday presented a check in the amount of $50,000 to township fire Chief Lynn Diehl.

Supervisor Fred Kemmerer Jr. explained that $40,000 goes toward the fire company, while the other $10,000 goes toward retention of firemen and to entice people to join.

Resident Jill Renfrew praised the fire department.

“We can’t thank them enough for what they do,” Renfrew said.

After the meeting, Diehl said the fire department was extremely grateful for the donation.

“It’s always appreciated,” Diehl said. “We couldn’t keep up with trucks without it.”

Diehl added that $40,000 will go right into the fire department’s fund that’s used for the purchase of vehicles, and noted the fire department has a $1.3 million pumper on order that hopefully will be here by February.

“The township money is always used for the equipment purchase,” he said. “It’s always put aside for equipment.”

Diehl said the remaining $10,000 will get dispersed to the firefighters and fire police for retention.
