The Carbon Career & Technical Institute approved the following business last week:

• Accepted the letter of resignation from Michael Garrant, engineering technology/technician instructor and Robotics Club adviser, effective Oct. 5. No reason for his resignation was given.

• Rainbeau Currier was approved as a Category C (long-term) engineering technology/technician substitute instructor, effective Aug. 20, and continuing for 90 days or more.

• Appointed John (Jay) Sabo, English teacher, effective Aug. 20, at a step 1, master’s/master’s equivalency. Sabo has served as the building substitute and long-term science substitute in the 2025-26 school year. In addition, he has 11 years of experience teaching multiple subjects, including English in private schools.

• Granted tenure status to Robert Fehr, welding instructor; Michael Garrant, engineering technology/technician instructor; Ashleigh Rehrig, culinary arts instructor; and Julian Valentini, social studies/special education teacher.

• Approved a two-day new teacher orientation to take place prior to Aug. 20.

• Aadjustment of the 2026-27 salary of Phillip Strubinger, social studies/special education teacher, from $59,100 to $60,200, adding $1,100 for master’s/master’s equivalency. JOC member Gerald Strubinger abstained from the vote.

• Joseph L. Krushinsky Jr. appointed adult education GED instructor at a rate of $24 per hour on an as-needed basis through July 2027.

• Set student lunch price for a second lunch for the 2026-27 school year be set at $3 for Type A students, $5 for adults. Note: All students will receive a free breakfast and lunch for the 2026-27 school year.

• Retained Zimmerman’s Dairy of Lehighton as the CCTI milk/juice supplier for the 2026-27 school year. Prices for milk and juice shall remain the same as the 2025-26 school year. Milk prices are established by the Pennsylvania Milk Marketing Board.

• Purchase of one Prometheon Board at a cost of $3,035. The Promethean Board, also known as the ActivPanel, is an interactive display designed to enhance learning and collaboration in educational settings. It features touch technology, integrated software and various tools to engage students and facilitate teaching.

• Approved the purchase of 150 Lenovo Flagship Chromebooks for student use at a total cost of $34,192.50. The items are included in the Capital Plan.

• Approved the revised CCTI Student & Parent Handbook, and then voted to approve the purchase of 650 handbooks at a cost of $4,387.50.

• Approved the revised CCTI Course Handbook, and approved the purchase of 400 handbooks at a cost of $4,000.

• Memorandum of Understanding with the Jim Thorpe Police Department, per the Pennsylvania Department of Education Safe School Reporting regulations and CCTI Joint Operating Committee Policy 218.1.
