The music of the psaltery, the lyre and the chrotta could be heard last Thursday at the Kibler One-Room School Museum in Towamensing Township.

Educator Veronika Roemer presented “Instruments of the Angels,” the first of three informative presentations by local speakers that are sponsored by the One-Room School Museum each July.

Roemer’s presentation included music played on ancient stringed instruments that are depicted in paintings being played by angels.

Each summer three presentations, all by local speakers, are given on the last three Thursdays in July. All presentations begin at 7 p.m. and are held on the school lawn or inside in the event of light rain.

If there is a severe thundershower, the presentation is canceled and moved to the following year.

The next two Thursdays will conclude this year’s programs.

The presentation this Thursday will be given by a representative of Picnic Woods Alpacas, a farm located in Mahoning Township. The final presentation, entitled “Sauerkraut: Pennsylvania Dutch Health Food,” will be given by Wayne Scheckler on July 30.

All presentations begin at 7 p.m. and are followed by refreshments at outdoor tables. Parking is available in the Christman Trailhead parking lot across the street from the school.

Kibler School Committee Member Roy Christman says that the programs are in keeping with the history of the school,

“For over 100 years Kibler has been in the business of education and we are continuing that mission,” he said.
