Franklin Township’s senior Connie Mack baseball team will be competing in the upcoming state playoffs.

The Mud Dawgs are the fifth-seeded team from the Lehigh Valley League and will open state play on Thursday against Chestnut Hill, the No. 4 seed out of the Bux Mont league.

Twelve teams, six from the Lehigh Valley and six from Bux Mont, will be competing for the state crown with the playoffs running from Thursday to Aug. 1 when a champion will be crowned. All games in the double-elimination tournament will be played at Limeport Stadium.

Franklin, coached by JC Dietz, currently has a record of 14-5. The team tied East Stroudsburg for fourth in the league, but was given the fifth seed based on Eastburg’s regular-season win over the Mud Dawgs. Franklin, which ended regular-season play on a six-game winning streak, gained some revenge against ES by defeating them in the league playoffs, 12-1, before suffering a tough 8-7 loss to Southern Lehigh in the semifinals.

Thursday’s game is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. If FT wins its opener, it will face Northampton — the LV league champions — Saturday at 1 p.m. If FT loses its first game, it will play again Sunday at 7:30 p.m. in an elimination game.
