The Monroe County commissioners announced that Monroe County, Stroudsburg and East Stroudsburg will be receiving $663,596 from the Department of Community and Economic Development through the 2025 Community Development Block Grant.

Commissioner John Christy, chairman, announced the notification during the board meeting last week.

Chief Clerk Robert Gress said the money will be used for road improvements such as paving and Americans with Disabilities Act improvements, and for housing rehabilitation. The income rehabilitation is income based.

The commissioners also approved the following items:

• Amend Motion 2026-160 dated June 3 to reduce the payment amount for Ross Township demolition project from $10,000 to $9,000 due to the project being under budget as requested by the Redevelopment Authority;

• Advertise the following: Reschedule Aug. 5 commissioners’ meeting to 3 p.m. and Salary Board meeting to 3:30 p.m.; public hearing on the 2026-2028 Emergency Solutions Grant program request for funding; and the availability of the Request for Funding Proposal for the 2026 Emergency Solutions Grant;

• Deferred action on a Request for Proposals for Drug and Alcohol and Counseling Services at the Monroe County Correctional Facility, which were opened June 18, to the Aug. 5 meeting;

• Request from Monroe Farmers Market to continue to use Sheriff’s parking lot for two standard Porta Potties and one handicap accessible Porta Potty for September and October;

• Opioid Grants from the Opioid Settlement Funds — Memorandum of Understanding with Nehemiah Sober Living Inc., $45,250, for recovery house rental assistance and transportation;

• Payments for items from the Hotel Tax funds — East Stroudsburg Marching Band, $2,000; Stroudsburg Marching Band, $2,000; Pins By Design, $3,703.86; Gotta Go Potties, $640; Pocono Soap, $600; Dutch Hill Preserves, $1,100;

• Commissioner Sharon Laverdure reminded the public that the Pocono Summer Concert Chorale concert is at 7 p.m. on Thursday at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 9 N. Ninth St., Stroudsburg. There’s no cost for admission, but there is a free will offering with the proceeds going to Meals on Wheels, locally.

“I’m really honored that Dr. (James) Maroney chose it to be in celebration of the PA 250, and the songs all work around that. So it’s really cool,” she said.
