LVHN Health Care Partner of the Month

Daniel Lawall

Position: Advanced Life Support Technical Partner at Lehigh Valley Hospital (LVH)–Carbon.

Education/Training: Daniel Lawall has been in emergency medical services since January 1988, obtaining Emergency Medical Technician certification and then certification as a nationally registered paramedic from George E. Moerkirk Emergency Medicine Institute, a hospital-based training center at Lehigh Valley Health Network, part of Jefferson Health.

He also maintains American Heart Association certification in Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support. Lawall earned a Bachelor of Science in secondary education/social studies from Kutztown University.

Specialty: Advanced Life Support

Services offered: Lawall works in collaboration with the ER team as they deliver patient care and treatment. His services benefit the acute and chronically ill in the emergency room. His specialized training allows him to initiate IVs and administer fluids. He can perform electrocardiograms, monitor vital signs and identify cardiac rhythms, including potentially lethal rhythms like ventricular fibrillation and heart blockages.

“Having experience in an ambulance, I bring that knowledge into the hospital to enhance the continuum of care,” he says.

Conditions treated: He can assist with a large variety of patient conditions such as heart, breathing, stroke and diabetic issues.

What you should know: Each member of the ER fills an important role in the quality of patient care. ALS Technical Partners provide critical support to emergency room staff, which directly benefits patients.

“My pre-hospital training allows me to begin basic initial care, quickly identify any life threats or changes in condition, and communicate with nurses, advanced care providers and doctors,” he says.

He’s accustomed to working in the ranks of fast thinkers who provide medicine in an unpredictable setting.

“The team at LVH–Carbon is the best of the best,” Lawall says.

Leaning on a quote from Hippocrates, Lawall says the team provides something very important to the community: “To cure sometimes, to relieve often, to comfort always.”

The ER at Lehigh Valley Hospital–Carbon: Offers the highest-quality care 24/7. As a Primary Stroke Center and Accredited Chest Pain Center, the hospital and its colleagues are ready to respond when seconds matter.

LVH–Carbon is proudly part of Jefferson Health.
