State police at Frackville - crashes

State police at the Frackville barracks reported the following crashes:

• A 2-year-old boy from West Hazleton was treated after a one-vehicle crash at 3:13 p.m. July 11 on Interstate 81 in Ryan Township.

Police said he was transported by personnel from the Ryan Township Emergency & Rescue Squad to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Pottsville.

Police said the boy was secured in a front-facing child safety seat of a 2015 Dodge Ram 1500 that was driven by Andy Fortuna De La Cruz, 42, of West Hazleton. De La Cruz and another passenger, Viandy Toribio Pena, 36, also of West Hazleton, were uninjured in the incident.

Police said De La Cruz was southbound and driving at a speed too fast for conditions when the vehicle hit a “skid,” spun counterclockwise and overturned, coming to rest on its left side.

The vehicle had disabling damage and was towed from the scene.

De La Cruz was cited for failure to drive at a safe speed, according to police.

• No one was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 6:43 p.m. July 12 on Interstate 81 in Ryan Township.

Police said the crash occurred when Rayme Gonzalez Severino, 23, of Hazleton, was driving south in a 2007 Toyota Camry, at which time a Tesla traveling in front of the Camry merged into the left lane because of a disabled tractor-trailer parked on the right shoulder. They said as the Tesla began to merge back into the right lane the Camry approached it at a dangerously high rate of speed.

Police said the Tesla swerved to avoid the Camry, while the Camry went out of control as it passed the Tesla and struck it. The Camry then hit the guide rail before coming to a halt.

Police said both vehicles were towed from the scene.

Gonzalez Severino was cited for failure to drive at a safe speed, according to police.

The driver of the Tesla was not identified by police. Two passengers in the vehicle from Mt. Dora, Florida, including a 2-year-old girl, were uninjured, as were the drivers of the vehicles.
