Rush Township is hiring a firm to assist with looking over the township’s 2025 financial audit.

The audit, which is being prepared by Jones & Co., hasn’t been finalized, and supervisors voted unanimously to have DBU Inc. “assist with consolidation and cleanup of accounts.”

DBU will be paid $90 per hour and a one-time fee of $400.

Former supervisor Robert Leibensperger questioned which accounts would be removed.

“I don’t think any of that has been extremely finalized yet,” board Chairman George Gerhard said. “Jones & Co. gave some recommendations, and this company is going to come in and help with that consolidation.”

After the unanimous vote was taken and the board worked through the remainder of Thursday’s agenda, including the public comment portion, Gerhard read from a statement.

“Here’s the latest mess that we have inherited,” Gerhard said. “The township has engaged Jones & Co. as we have to every year for an audit.”

Jones & Co., he said, was unable to complete the audit “due to many inconsistencies and apparent financial mismanagement.”

“We’re not at this point believing that there is any money that was missing, however, that is one of the reasons that we have to go out and hire this other firm to come in and help reconcile things,” Gerhard said.

Leibensperger attempted to speak.

“Public comment is over,” Gerhard said.

“George, you were on the previous board, so it’s you also,” Leibensperger began.

“Public comment is over,” Gerhard repeated as he struck the gavel. “The meeting is adjourned.”
