Lehighton woman charged with hiding wanted man

A Lehighton woman faces charges after she tried to conceal the whereabouts of a man police sought on a warrant Sunday.

Chalsa Reichard, 33, of Bridge Street, was arraigned by District Judge William Kissner Monday morning on charges of hindering apprehension and obstruction of law enforcement.

She was released on $5,000 unsecured bail and a preliminary hearing is tentative scheduled for July 22.

According to the criminal complaint, Lehighton police came to Reichard’s home with an arrest warrant for Stephen Lassell Jr., related to delinquent fines and costs from criminal charges in 2023.

They heard a man and woman talking at the back of the home, which was covered by plastic and a tarp.

The male, identified as Lassell, came out of the opening and then ran back inside when police called out him, court papers said, and officers contacted an assistant district attorney for a search warrant for the home.

Reichard then came out of the home and spoke to officers, who advised her that Lassell was wanted and seen running back into the home.

She told officers that he ran out the front door, court papers said. Officers told her that they were watching the home, and Lassell didn’t come out of the front of the home. Reichard closed the door on the officers and told them to get a warrant, court papers said.

Police have made contact with Reichard before regarding the outstanding warrants, as Lassell is known to be living at the address. Reichard has stated that he doesn’t live there, and officers told her if he is found inside, she would be charged as she knew about the warrants, court papers said.

Police again told her about the criminal warrants and that Lassell was seen running into her home. Reichard refused to cooperate with Lehighton police, court papers said.

While police drafted a search warrant for the home, Lassell voluntarily left the residence and was taken into custody on the outstanding warrants. Reichard was also taken into custody on the obstruction and hindering charges.
