Pocono Garden Club to hold flower show & sale July 11

“Garden Symphony” is the theme for the Pocono Garden Club’s popular annual Flower Show and Plant Sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Tannersville.

Prize-winning floral arrangements and horticultural exhibits, an educational speaker and the sale of hundreds of locally grown plants will be featured. Proceeds benefit local charitable organizations.

“Last year, we donated thousands of dollars to local organizations thanks to the community’s support of our flower show and plant sale,” said Pocono Garden Club President Nell Cadue. “The club is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year, and membership is at an all-time high. We’re hoping flower show proceeds will also set a new record so we can help grow our community.”

Design will meet music when club members artistically interpret 10 musical classics as floral arrangements. From Big Band favorite “In the Mood” to Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons,” from Woody Guthrie’s American folk anthem “This Land Is Your Land” to Jerry Lee Lewis’ “Great Balls of Fire,” and several more, club members will create floral designs that sing.

Local horticulture and houseplant examples, from hostas and herbs to Shasta daisies and succulents, will be on display. All will have been judged, and winners awarded ribbons.

Pamela Hubbard, a well-known gardener, author and speaker, will present “The Contemporary Cottage Garden: Climate-Friendly, Mindful Methods for Growing Flowers and Food” at 11 a.m. That is also the title of her newest book, in which she shares her “insights and experiences in creating a traditional cottage garden while dealing with the challenges of nontraditional times.”

The plant sale offers an array of plants locally grown by club members. You’ll find a variety ranging from coneflowers, day lily hybrids, hostas and coral bells, to astilbe, herbs and houseplants. Perennials, annuals, bulbs, shrubs and small trees are offered.

A silent auction, Tricky Tray, Garden Marketplace with new or gently used garden-related items, Snack Corner and bake sale and door prizes round out the day’s offerings.

Proceeds benefit local charitable organizations, the number of which keeps growing with the flower show and plant sale’s success.

A $4 donation is requested for adults. Cash or check only for all sales. Credit and debit cards cannot be accepted. No pets are allowed, only trained service dogs.

St. Paul’s Lutheran Church is located at 158 Fish Hill Road, off Route 611, in Tannersville.
