Lehighton chooses location for Mosaic Mural

A location for an artistic design in Lehighton to commemorate our nation’s 250th anniversary has been chosen.

Borough council unanimously agreed on Monday to place the Mosaic Mural in the area of the Caboose on Sgt. Stanley Hoffman Boulevard.

Before the vote, Mayor Ryan Saunders told council members they needed to figure out the placement of the mural.

Saunders said it will tie itself into the Trailhead Beautification Project.

“I think it will help turn people’s heads to the right instead of the left (when coming down the bypass),” Saunders said. “I think it will really beautify (the whole) area down there.”

Last month, the Lehighton Downtown Initiative sought assistance to help paint the tiles of its Mosaic Mural.

That came after council in May approved LDI’s request to purchase and erect a 7-foot by 12-foot Mosaic Mural, at a cost of $4,997, at a location to be determined for America250.

The LDI received a Mosaic Mural Grant from America250PA and Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful, according to Bambi Elsasser, community operations director, LDI.

Elsasser said at that time the tiles had arrived, and added they would love for individuals to come out to the Lehighton Recreation Center on one of their designated painting time frames.

She said there were only 200 tiles to be painted for the mural, and that they would be done on a first-come, first-served basis.

Also on Monday, council agreed to have LDI apply for the Trailhead Beautification Grant.
