Reading and Northern Railroad’s 2026 locomotive joined its 1776 locomotive and the Union Pacific “Big Boy” Thursday on travels between Jim Thorpe and Reading. The 2026 was recently given a patriotic makeover at the railroad’s West Cressona paint shop. It is the railroad’s second diesel locomotive decorated in red, white and blue. The 2026 was originally built in October 1974 as Southern Railway #5139. Reading & Northern acquired it in October 2017 from Norfolk Southern and numbered it #2010. JILL WHALEN/TIMES NEWS
