Slatington Borough Council held a special meeting Monday night to approve two resolutions seeking grants from Lehigh County.

The borough is applying for a $12,000 quality of life grant to be used for the Main Street Beautification Project.

Council President Ryan Mayberry said, “We would like to start with the trees on Main Street. Some of the trees are 20 years old. There are dead trees that need to come down. The trees are in need of pruning because the branches are hitting the buildings.”

He plans to get quotes from tree removal companies.

“Benches, flower pots, new trees planted and flowers would be nice on Main Street,” Mayberry added. Vice President David Schnaars said, “I would like the trees in front of our Borough building to be included in that. They need attention.”

A $10,000 tourism grant would be used for 2027 Slatington Borough events.

Mayberry said, “We will use the grant to advertise and facilitate events. We are hoping for people from out of the area to attend events in Slatington. We welcome tourism.”
