Fundraiser aids Weatherly cancer patients

A fundraising event was held Sunday at Eurana Park in Weatherly to help raise much-needed funds for Nicole Audino and Kelly Titus, both from the Weatherly area, and both dealing with cancer.

The program included a 5K run/walk, as well as a basket auction, bke sale, and gift card raffle.

“These are two moms that are fighting their battle with cancer,” explained Brandon Pugh, a cross country and track & field coach with the Weatherly School District.

“They have children involved in some of the teams at Weatherly and more children involved in other sports. We all wanted to come together to show our love and support for both Nicole Audino and Kelly Titus. We know they’re battling but we wanted to make sure no one fights alone, so we wanted to come out and do this 5K run and walk today to show our love and support.”

Forty-one men, women and children took part in the 5K run/walk, with all proceeds going to the two women.

“It’s great just to be here for Kelly and Nicole, and have fun run,” said Ryan Katley, a Weatherly cross country coach.

“It was very humid out today, but it was fun overall seeing people come out and do this for a good cause,” said DeAnna Pugh. “It was awesome.”

Pugh, who is a senior at Marian High School, and her sister, Mikayla, who is a freshman at Weatherly High School, both took part it the 5K.

The top five winners of the 5K were Preston Klem, 17:33; Joe Rossi, 18:31; Sebastian Williams, 18:45; Alex Best, 20:02; and Katherine Jones, 21:53.
