The board of directors of the Coaldale-Lansford-Summit Hill Joint Sewer Authority announced plans to break ground for a new pumping station to be built by the authority in Summit Hill.

Walter Strauss, board chairman, said the facility will be built in the southeast section of the community, near the crest of the White Bear Hill, and will replace an “old and worn-out station.”

The new station is expected to cost between $102,00 and $104,000. A grant of $70,000 has been received from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Resources to subsidize a portion of the cost, while the authority will finance the balance.

When it is in operation, the plant will handle sewage from the south and east sections of the community.
