Fugitive in custody after 2-vehicle crash

Butler Township Police have arrested a man who had been a fugitive of an outstanding warrant since last year.

Officers responded to a two-vehicle crash around 3:20 p.m. on May 15, at the intersection of North Hunter Highway and Kisenwether Connector Drive. The investigation determined that one vehicle had been struck from behind and the driver at-fault fled the scene without stopping.

Witnesses obtained the vehicle’s registration number and provided it to police.

The next day, the suspect vehicle was stopped by White Haven Police. The driver, Mark A. Weaver, 42, of Ebervale, told officers he believed he had struck an animal. He was identified as the driver in the hit-and-run crash in Butler Township.

Police charged Weaver with accidents involving damage to an attended vehicle, failure to stop and provide information, and driving while operating privilege is suspended or revoked.

After failing to appear for a preliminary hearing on Aug. 5, 2025, a warrant was issued for Weaver’s arrest.

On June 14, Butler Township Police took him into custody at a hospital, where he had been taken after a separate crash earlier in the day.

Weaver was arraigned before on-call Magisterial District Judge Rick Cronauer, who set bail at $10,000. He was committed to Luzerne County Correctional Facility in lieu of bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled later this month in Luzerne County Central Court.
