2 charged for vehicle stolen from Lock Haven

Butler Township Police charged two people after officers located a vehicle that had been reported stolen from central Pennsylvania.

According to a criminal complaint, officers received an alert from the department’s Flock Safety camera system shortly before 4 p.m. on June 14 indicating that a stolen Nissan Rogue was traveling south on North Hunter Highway, Route 309, near Interstate 80. A short time later, an officer located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop in the 300 block of North Hunter Highway.

The vehicle had been reported stolen on June 11 from Lock Haven.

The driver, Shannon L. Doan, 38, of Wilkes-Barre, was charged with felony receiving stolen property and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. She was arraigned before on-call Magisterial District Judge Rick Cronauer, who set bail at $7,500 unsecured.

Doan, who was already on probation, remains lodged at Luzerne County Prison on a detainer issued by Luzerne County Adult Probation and Parole as a result of the new charges.

A passenger, Joseph Swartwood, 52, of Hunlock Creek, also was taken into custody after officers discovered he was wanted on a probation violation warrant. He was committed to Luzerne County Correctional Facility. Swartwood is expected to face additional charges after officers allegedly found him in possession of drug paraphernalia during the arrest.

Two children, ages 2 and 4, who were in the vehicle at the time of the stop were released to family members.

Freeland Police assisted Butler Township Police during the investigation.
