Slatington man killed in motorcycle crash identified

State police at the Bethlehem barracks have released the name of the Slatington man who died in a motorcycle crash at 10:47 p.m. Monday on Welshtown Road, Washington Township.

Police said Kenneth R. Derr, 67, was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:51 p.m. Lehigh County Coroner Daniel A. Buglio said the cause of the death is multiple blunt force injuries due to the crash, which has been ruled an accident.

Police released additional details of the crash that happened in the 3000 block of Welshtown Road, saying Derr was operating a 1997 Harley Davidson Road King at a speed greater that conditions permitted. They said the cycle was westbound and approaching the entrance to the Slatington Reservoir when Derr lost control of it on a left curve and the cycle traveled off the right side of the road, briefly entered a grassy area, re-entered the roadway and rolled onto its left side. They said Derr was thrown from the vehicle, which continued westbound in the grass and came to an uncontrolled final rest.

Police said Derr came to rest just east of the cycle’s final position.

The cycle was towed from the scene.

Police were also assisted at the scene by personnel from the Friedens Fire Department.
