Turnpike crashes

State police at the Pocono barracks reported the following crashes that occurred on the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike:

• Augustus B. Garnett, 42, of Wilkes-Barre, was cited for failure to drive at a safe speed after a two-vehicle crash at 12:55 p.m. on May 23 at mile marker 75.5 in Parryville borough.

He was uninjured, but police said he was transported to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Carbon Campus, Franklin Township, for observation, as was the driver of the second vehicle, Kelly B. Hunter, 58, of Effort.

Personnel from the Lehighton Ambulance Association made the transports.

Police said Garnett was driving a 2013 Infiniti G37 when he lost control of it during a heavy rainstorm. The vehicle crossed the center line and hit a 2016 Honda HRV driven by Hunter before striking a guide rail along the west berm of the highway.

Police said the Infiniti had extensive disabling damage, while the Honda had disabling front-end damage.

• Karli J. Weiss, 33, of Perkasie, was cited after a two-vehicle crash at mile marker 83 in Penn Forest Township.

Police said she was driving a 2017 Nissan Rogue northbound when she lost control of it during a heavy rainstorm. The vehicle struck the concrete median, crossed the center line and hit a 2023 Hyundai Venue that was driven by Nicole E. Tormann, 23, of Macungie.

Neither driver, nor three passengers with Weiss and one passenger with Tormann, were injured.

Police said the Rogue had disabling damage and was towed from the scene, while the Venue had functional driver’s side damage.
