State police at Lehighton - crashes
State police at the Lehighton barracks reported the following crashes:
• Heather L. Pepas, 36, of Palmerton, was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 6:34 p.m. May 7 on White Street in Bowmanstown.
Police said she was transported by personnel from the Lehighton Ambulance Association to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Carbon Campus, Franklin Township.
They said the crash occurred when Pepas was riding a 2020 Electric Cycle that struck the rear of a 2020 Electric Cycle operated by Dakota L. Recker, 30, of Palmerton, that was stopped in the westbound lane.
Police said the two motorized bicycles had functional damage.
Both riders were cited for operating unregistered vehicles, according to police.
• Gilbert B. Borger, 71, of Kunkletown, was treated after a one-vehicle crash at 11:26 a.m. May 10 on Interchange Road, Polk Township.
Police said he was transported by personnel from the Lehigh Valley Health Network EMS corps to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Carbon Campus, Franklin Township.
Police said he was driving a 2012 GMC Acadia northbound when for unknown reasons he accelerated and the vehicle veered to the left and hit a utility pole. It sustained heavy front-end damage and was towed from the scene.
Borger was cited after the crash, according to police.
• Faith S. Kennedy, 21, of Jamaica, New York, had “possible injuries” after a two-vehicle crash at 1:25 p.m. May 23 on Route 115 in Ross Township.
Police said she was transported by personnel from the Lehigh Valley Health Network EMS corps to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Pocono Campus, East Stroudsburg.
They said the crash occurred as Neil Roberti Jr., 52, of Saylorsburg, was driving a 2005 Hyundai Elantra northbound when it traveled over the crest of a hill and struck a 2024 Hyundai Elantra operated by Kennedy, who had slowed down for a vehicle turning in front of her car.
Police said both vehicles had minor damage.
Roberti was cited for failure to drive at a safe speed, while Kennedy was cited for driving a vehicle without financial responsibility (insurance), according to police.
• Emily M. Whisenhunt, 18, of Kunkletown, was cited for following too closely after a two-vehicle crash at 4:20 p.m. May 23 on Scenic Drive, Polk Township, police said. No one was injured in the incident.
Police said that Whisenhunt was driving a 2012 Toyota RAV4 southbound when a 2022 Toyota Tacoma driven in front of her by Kevin Pecunia, 62, also of Kunkletown, pulled off the roadway to let Whisenhunt pass.
They said the RAV4 hit the Tacoma, went into a spin and came to rest facing a tree line.
The RAV4 had heavy front-end damage and was towed from the scene, police said.
