Man gets prison in Slatington rape case

One of two men who raped a 17-year-old girl in February 2025 was sentenced May 28 in Lehigh County Court to 10-20 years in a state prison.

Lehigh County District Attorney Gavin P. Holihan announced that Tristan Zawick, 23, of Whitehall Township, appeared before Judge James Anthony for his sentencing. In addition to the state prison term, he was ordered to undergo five years of consecutive probation upon his release, and to register the rest of his life under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act.

Holihan said Zawick pleaded guilty in February to charges of rape, conspiracy to commit rape, false imprisonment, strangulation and conspiracy to false imprisonment.

The second person charged with the same offenses, Jacquan Tanasse, 19, of Catasauqua, also pleaded guilty to the charges. He is scheduled to be sentenced at a later date. The district attorney said a hearing to determine whether he is a sexually violent predator is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Aug. 26 before Anthony.

The rape occurred before 7 p.m. on Feb. 7 of last year. Slatington police reported they were called to a home in the 200 block of Walnut Street, where the victim told them Tanasse and Zawick had raped her in the basement of the home.

She said the two men physically restrained her, wrapped a cord around her wrists and stuffed a shirt in her mouth to silence her before raping her. She also told police that during the assault, Tanasse choked her.

Police said the girl had injuries consistent with being restrained and choked after the attack and rape.

This case was investigated by Lehigh County District Attorney’s Special Victims Unit Detective Thomas Galloway and Slatington police. The cases were prosecuted by Senior Deputy District Attorney Sarah K. Heimbach.
