S. Carbon repeats as Senior Games champion
The dust has settled and returning champions South Carbon County, comprised of Lehighton and Palmerton seniors, are the top team for the 2026 Carbon County Senior Games.
The final scores are South Carbon County, 845; and North Carbon County, comprised of Panther Valley, Weatherly and Jim Thorpe, 425.
The South took many of the top places during Wednesday’s events, which included bingo, pinochle, rummy and dancing, the last day of competition after the miniature golf event was canceled due to the weather.
Anne Horrigan, director of the games, thanked everyone for making this year another successful event.
The games will officially conclude at 4 p.m. today with a banquet at the American Legion in Lehighton.
The results of Wednesday’s competition are:
Bingo
• Marie Hahn of Palmerton, gold; Ted Krieger of Lehighton, silver; and Linda Krieger of Lehighton, bronze.
Pinochle
• Keith Shelly of Lehighton, gold; Julie O’Neill of Jim Thorpe, silver; and Drew Everett of Palmerton, bronze.
Rummy
• Kim Komala of Lehighton, gold; Shirley Barry of Panther Valley, silver; and John Dewald of Jim Thorpe, bronze.
Dance
• Polka: Sandy Whiteman of Lehighton and Sofia Mathews of Panther Valley, gold; Norman Sutters of Lehighton and Charlotte Koenig of Palmerton, silver; and Steve and Ivana Okula of Jim Thorpe, bronze.
• Slow dance: Tom Williams of Lehighton and Ruth Holden of Palmerton, gold; Steve and Joyce Springer of Jim Thorpe, silver; and Steve and Ivana Okula of Jim Thorpe, bronze.
• Rock ‘n’ Roll: Bruce Doud and Diane Donlin, both of Lehighton, gold; Tom Williams of Lehighton and Ruth Holden of Palmerton, silver; and Sue Andrews and Jerry Starkey, both of Palmerton, bronze.
