A woman with 33 years as an active member of the Lansford American Legion Auxiliary was selected “Mother of the Year”during last evening’s meeting held in the post home.

Named recipient of the award was Mrs. Mary Jeffries, widow of Phil Jeffries, who has participated in all phases of the auxiliary for years and is currently serving as its civil defense chairlady.

Serving on the committee to select Mrs. Jeffries as this year’s award winner were Mrs. Elizabeth Thomas and Mrs. Sara Terry.

Nine Gold Star mothers were also honored at the dinner: Mrs. Helen Kopko, Mrs. Mary Kosalko, Mrs. Vera Miller, Mrs. Ann Rimm, Mrs. Anna Koshuta, Mrs. Jane Marshall, Mrs. Catherine Wapensky, Mrs. Helen Holowiak and Mrs. Jennie Bengston.
