Basket raffle
American Legion Post 927, Gilbert, is hosting a raffle Saturday to benefit the Buena Vista Cemetery in Brodheadsville. The doors open at noon. Drawings begins at 2 p.m.
There will be seating under the pavilion.
Farmers market
Zion Lutheran church, Brodheadsville, will be hosting another farmers market this Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m.
Grads to be feted
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Brodheadsville, is inviting all its 2026 graduating seniors to celebrate their achievement and receive a blessing during the 11 a.m. Mass on Sunday.
RSVPs are due to carbone@qopchurch.org by today. Replying seniors should include graduated from which high school; clubs, memberships, hobbies and interests; and future plans — college, career, tech school.
Refreshments will be offered in the atrium afterward.
‘Birding by Boat’
Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center has announced a “Birding by Boat” event at Tobyhanna State Park on Thursday beginning at 7:45 a.m.
Limited kayaks and equipment are available upon request.
There is a per person cost.

Police Week
Pennsylvania will mark National Police Week from May 10-16 and Peace Officers Memorial Day on Friday, May 15, according to Rep. Jack Rader.
The day, established by President John F. Kennedy in 1962, pays tribute to the local, state and federal peace officers who have died or been disabled in the line of duty.
“We are blessed by the men and women who have taken an oath to serve and protect, and particularly by those who have sacrificed their lives to protect public safety,” Rader said.
Men’s Breakfast
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Brodheadsville, is hosting a Men’s Breakfast at 8:30 a.m. Saturday after the 8 a.m. Communion Service.
Flower event
Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center is hosting “April Showers to May Flowers” from 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday.
Folks are invited to “come and explore the colorful world of flowers” and enjoy the beauty blooming all around.
Participants can walk the trails to find flowers and learn what makes each one special. There is a cost, and participants must preregister by calling 570-629-3061.
The center is located at 8050 Running Valley Road, Stroudsburg.
Two celebrations
Overlapping celebrations are happening this week. It was just National Nurses Week, May 6-12. Now it is National Hospitals Week, May 10-16.
Plant pickup
Folks who ordered plants at Salem-St. Paul Church, Kresgeville, are reminded to pick up their plants at the church from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
Eldred pantry
The Eldred Township Community Center food pantry is scheduled to be open from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.
Animal Frolic
This weekend and next, Quiet Valley, Monroe County’s living historical farm, is holding its Farm Animal Frolic. The hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each Friday and Saturday of the four-day event.
Included will be meeting and interacting with the farm’s many baby animals; witnessing sheep shearing and wool demonstrations; and exploring a Civil War reenactors encampment.
People can also take home plants from the spring plant sale and find unique items at the Timeless Treasures location.
Baked good will be happily accepted for the food tent, such as pies, cakes, bars, fruit crisps and more, including gluten-free items.

Grant deadline
“Grants to help Pennsylvania farmers and agricultural producers market their products are now available from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture and its PA Preferred Marketing Grants Program,” state Rep. Jack Rader said.
Applications for grants of up to $10,000 to reimburse promotional costs are due by Saturday.
Blood drive
The Polk Township Volunteer Fire Company is hosting a community blood drive on Monday.
People can donate at the drive with Miller-Keystone Blood Center from 1-6 p.m.

Military Share
American Legion Post 927, Gilbert, will be hosting the Military Share program at 11 a.m. Tuesday. It is the Second Harvest Food bank’s monthly event for veteran and active duty members.

VALOR help
St. John’s Lutheran Church, Effort, has announced that on primary election day, May 19, the church will have a Taco Food Truck present from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m., or until the food runs out.
The church itself will have a church bake sale starting at 10 a.m. until items run out.
The fundraiser proceeds will be sent to VALOR to benefit the veterans.
Senior barbecue
The annual High School Senior BBQ at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Brodheadsville, will be held at 6:30 Tuesday at the pavilion. The graduates will be celebrated with food, music, fellowship and fun.
Eldred meeting
The Eldred Township board of supervisors will meet at 7 p.m. May 20 at the municipal building, 490 Kunkletown Road.
Older artists wanted
Submissions for the Older Artists of PA Showcase are due by May 24.
Works must have been created in the past year and a half.
There are three categories: Professional, Non-professional and Artists over 60 Living with Dementia.

250th in Polk
The Polk Township Volunteer Fire Company, Kresgeville, will host a three-night celebration in honor of America’s 250th anniversary on May 28-30, at the West End Fairgrounds in Gilbert. Grounds open at 5:30 p.m. May 28 and 29, and 2:30 p.m. May 30.
The first two days will offer free rides, while the last day will have ride-all-day wristbands available to purchase. The final night will include a fireworks spectacular beginning at 9:30 p.m.
