Tamaqua drama club to present ‘Love’s Labour’s Lost’
The Tamaqua Area Drama Club will present “Love’s Labour’s Lost,” a musical adaptation of Shakespeare’s comedy at 8 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
The performance will be held in the courtyard of the Tamaqua Area High School. In the event of rain, it will be moved to the district auditorium.
Romance, revelry and infectious pop music ignite in this contemporary yet lovingly faithful musical adapted by Michael Friedman and Alex Timbers from Shakespeare’s original text.
The fun and lighthearted show prompts laughter and reminds audiences that the heart cannot always be controlled by the mind, despite how hard one might try.
At their five-year college reunion, the King of Navarre and his best friends vow to swear off the joys of life, including women, by signing an oath to spend three years engaged in nothing but academic study. But, when four cute, clever girls from their past show up, they’re forced to reconsider all of that nonsense.
Add in an outlandish Spanish exchange student, a performance-art-loving professor and an entire brass band, love and devotion are put to the test with hilarious results.
Featuring an ensemble cast and catchy musical selections, it is a fun close to the club’s season and the perfect show to watch under the stars in the courtyard.
The club invites all to share some laughs, enjoy spring and bid seniors goodbye in their final club performance.
The show is a one-act production with no intermission and a run time of between 90 and 100 minutes.
“We have a tremendously dedicated group of students, and time and time again, they show up to pursue something they love doing,” said Adriane Drum, director. “They put in the hours to make three productions in a year possible.”
As “Love’s Labour’s Lost” reminds us, she said, there is much joy and delight that comes in pursuing what we love. But, she said, there is an end to everything.
For example, she noted that 18 members of the drama club are seniors.
“Some have been with this club since elementary school, and this final production marks an 18th show with me,” Drum said. “Some have been more recent members. All, however, have left their mark on myself and this club.”
Doors to the performance open at 7 p.m. and snacks and refreshments will be available for purchase.
Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the door or online at https://events.ticketleap.com/events/tamaquaareadramaclub.
