Over 100 people were in attendance when the Panther Valley Council of Republican Women held its eighth anniversary dinner in the Lansford AMVETS Post Home.

The highlight of the evening was when Mrs. Mary Jane “Mattie” Heffelfinger was honored as being the oldest member of the council.

Mrs. Sadie Nochton, president, presented gifts from the council and the Lansford Republican Club to the honoree.

Mrs. Heffelfinger served as a Republican committeewoman in Lansford’s West Ward for over 30 years and until a recent illness had been active in the American Legion Auxiliary, Lansford Republican Club, Carbon 8 et 40, Emmanuel United Church of Christ and the Four-County American Legion Auxiliary.
