Weissport fills one spot; openings remain
Weissport has welcomed a new council member but lost its code officer.
Jennifer Ketchledge was appointed and sworn in as a new Borough Council member Monday evening.

The fifth council seat remains vacant, although the borough is communicating with a potential candidate.
Seats were opened when Shelley Fisher resigned in March, and Andrew Hottenstein resigned in April.

The Carbon County treasurer, Kevin Zelienka, will be collecting Weissport’s real estate taxes for the calendar year 2026. The Lehighton Area School District will collect the school taxes for Weissport.
Applicants for tax collector must be residents of Weissport Borough, be registered to vote, and be bondable. Call 610-377-5606 or email weissportborough4@gmail.com for information.
Police coverage
Weissport Borough approved a measure to sign a document requesting the Pennsylvania State Police provide full-time police coverage for the town.
There will be no cost to the borough for the coverage, although the agreement is expected to stay in place until Weissport hires a new police officer.
Talks have not resumed with the Lehighton Police Department and the Borough of Lehighton regarding their helping with police coverage in Weissport. Lehighton is waiting for several of their officers, who are out on medical leave, to return to work.
