Tamaqua man faces assault, drug charges

A Tamaqua man was committed to the Schuylkill County Prison after borough police said he punched a woman in the face.

Police said they also found illegal drugs at the home of Raymond Trevorah, 52, and charged him with simple assault and possession of a controlled substance.

Police said a woman told them about 3:50 p.m. Monday that Trevorah punched her in the eye while she was with him at a home on the 500 block of Washington Street. He was taken into custody.

While inside the house, police spotted a clear substance in a plastic bag, which Trevorah admitted was methamphetamine, police said. The substance tested positive as the illegal drug, police said.

Trevorah was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge James Reiley and jailed in lieu of $10,000 percentage bail, according to court papers. He subsequently posted bail.

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Tuesday before Magisterial District Judge Stephen Bayer, Tamaqua.
