A quick response by Tamaqua police and the fire department kept damage to a minimal Thursday morning in Tamaqua. The alarm came in around 11:30 a.m. for a working apartment building fire at 202 Market St. The first to arrive were the police who made an initial stop of the flames in the kitchen area. Firefighters from the American Hose, Citizens and South Ward fire companies contained the blaze and ventilated the structure. Five people, one adult and four juveniles were displaced in the incident. Tamaqua fire police maintained traffic control at the scene shutting down Market street.
