Tamaqua Area OKs paving, solar contracts
The Tamaqua Area School Board recently approved a paving contract for the district’s administration building, middle school and one elementary school.
The board approved the COSTARS contract with Sacks & Sons Inc. for three paving jobs that will be funded through $1 million set aside for capital projects.
The cost breakdown is $257,258.21 for the middle school; $21,635.50 for the administration building; and $205,691.26 for West Penn Elementary.
The district also approved a three-year contract with the McClure Company for maintenance of the district’s solar array. The cost will be $6,000, $6,200 and $6,400 per year, beginning May 1.
The district had received another quote from Solar Renewable Energy LLC, which it had previously partnered with on the array, but it started at $20,000 and could have gone as high as $30,000, Connie Ligenza, business manager, had said earlier.
The district is also working with McClure on a guaranteed energy savings project, which will save the district $2 million over 20 years as the district undertakes nearly $3 million in needed upgrades.
The board, in other business, approved:
• The Carbon-Schuylkill Intermediate eServices Agreement for 2026-27.
• An $18,675 contract for masonry for the stadium concession stand project to Bamford Concrete and Masonry, which was the low bidder. Snyder Masonry bid $21,429.50 and Bruce A. Snyder bid $20,245.
