The United Way of Carbon County distributed $60,196 in awards to member charities in 2001, according to a report of the organization presented during a session at Walck’s Restaurant, Parryville.

Peter Roberts, United Way president, reported the success of the organization in meeting its mission prior to the presentation of 17 checks to charities as part of the first quarter program.

Roberts, chief executive officer and president of the Jim Thorpe National Bank, also turned over the presidency or the organization for the 2002-2003 year to Attorney Michael Muffley.

The new leader maintains a law practice in Jim Thorpe and is also an assistant district attorney for Carbon County. He will be joined by Tim Beers and Bernetta Frantz, vice presidents, and Bob Clark, secretary.
