CCTI students show off their talents at annual performance
Students, family and friends were treated to the annual talent show Wednesday at the Carbon Career & Technical Institute in Jim Thorpe. Shows were held at 9 and 10 a.m. for students, and at 6 p.m. for the public.
“We’ve been doing the talent show for the past few years,” English teacher Maya Kowalcyk, said. “Our students did two shows this morning, and they’re here to bring their best tonight.”
There were five winner categories: presentation, showmanship and stage presence; originality of interpretation; talent and skill; audience reception; and entertainment value; plus a sixth category, honorable mention.
Emcee for the events was CCTI student Alessandro Hernandez.
The local celebrity judges were: Jocelyn Morris, co-founder for the Jim Thorpe Independent Film Festival; Amber Finsel, co-founder of Wild Elder Wine and Cider Company, Jim Thorpe; and Mike Stanley, professional musician, educator and owner of Royal Jam Custom Shop, Lehighton.
There were 12 performances altogether. All the students did musical entries.
• Raven Lehman, a sophomore, graphic design, sang “Creep” by Radiohead.
• Emily Dorward, a sophomore, graphic design, performed “Smoke on the Water” by Deep Purple on the Glockenspiel.
• Serenity Houston, a senior in culinary, sang “Another Believer” by Rufus Wainwright.
• Kyra Moore, a junior in digital marketing, sang “Uto” by Dead Poet Society.
• Victoria Brown, a senior, digital marketing, sang “Legends Never Die” by League of Leagues.
• Joseph Hernandez, a sophomore in EDA, played “Everlong” by Foo Fighters on guitar.
• Ella Vega-Santiago, a sophomore in graphic design, sang “A Million Dreams” by The Greatest Showman.
• Brook Tanasijczuk, a senior, health medical, sang “Wild Flower” by Billie Eilish.
• Paul Trofimov, a senior, HVAC, sang “Hurt” by Johnny Cash.
• Emily Kreckie, a junior, digital marketing, sang “Toxicity” by System of a Down.
• Adam Gardiner, a senior in drafting and design, performed “The Lemon Song” by Led Zeppelin on drums.
The 12th performance featured CCTI staff members Mark Barthel, graphic design instructor; Officer Henry Woods, SPO; and Brian McGinley, building sub. They performed “Name” by Goo Goo Dolls and “Semi-Charmed” by Third Eye Blind.
The winners of the talent show were: Joseph Hernandez, audience reception; Adam Gardiner, talent and skill; Brook Tanasijczuk, presentation, showmanship and stage presence; Ella Vega-Santiago, entertainment value; Emily Kreckie, originality or interpretation; and Paul Trofimov, honorable mention.
The show was free, but donations were accepted, which will be given to United Charities of Hazleton.
