Tamaqua police log
Tamaqua police reported on the following incidents:
• A Tamaqua man was committed to the Schuylkill County Prison on charges he sent threatening messages to a borough woman.
Police charged Anthony Martinez, 24, with terroristic threats following an incident that began at the South Ward Playground around 5:49 p.m. April 14.
Officers were called to the playground for a disturbance and learned that Martinez argued with the woman and pushed a man, police said. He was charged with harassment for allegedly pushing the man.
Police said Martinez was at the police station speaking with a co-responder later in the evening when the woman arrived and the two began to argue. The woman told police that she had received threatening messages from Martinez. In them, he allegedly said he was going to “beat” her, “snap her neck” and “watch her die.”
Police said they reviewed Martinez’s phone and saw the messages.
He was arraigned before Tamaqua Magisterial District Judge Stephen Bayer and jailed in lieu of $10,000 percentage bail.
A preliminary hearing for Martinez is scheduled for April 28 before Bayer.
• A Tamaqua man who keeps returning to his old residence despite having moved out is facing criminal trespass, harassment and other charges.
Tamaqua police said that Terrence Love, 61, is now in Schuylkill County Prison.
According to police, officers were called to the 100 block of Hunter Street at 3:17 a.m. April 14 by a woman who said Love keeps returning to her house even thought she bought it some time ago. She told police he keeps knocking on the door and has entered before. Love was arrested in October but returns despite police telling him to stay away.
In the latest incident, Love knocked on the door several times and was told to leave. He remained on the porch, looking inside the window and then sat on a neighbor’s porch as he watched the residence.
Police found Love sitting on the adjoining porch. He told officers that he wasn’t doing anything wrong.
Officers said Love refused to provide his date of birth. When asked to leave, he refused. As officers attempted to take him into custody, he pulled away and made a closed fist. He was eventually taken into custody.
Love was arraigned before Tamaqua Magisterial District Judge Stephen Bayer on charges of disorderly conduct, loitering and prowling at nighttime, harassment, criminal trespass and public drunkenness and committed to the Schuylkill County Prison on $5,000 percentage bail.
A preliminary hearing for Love is scheduled for April 28 before Bayer.
