Police investigating fatal motorcycle crash in Luzerne

Butler Township Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that happened Wednesday night.

Officers were dispatched to the 600 block of St. Johns Road at 10:20 p.m., where the crash was discovered.

The driver, Jeremy J. Debias Jr., 28, of Drums, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A preliminary investigation indicates Debias was traveling east on St. Johns Road when his 1997 Kawasaki left the roadway while negotiating a slight curve.

Family members became concerned when Debias failed to return home and began searching for him. They ultimately located the motorcycle in a nearby field.

Debias was pronounced dead at the scene by Luzerne County Deputy Coroner Jeff Stock. The roadway was closed for several hours while the crash was investigated. St. Johns Road was reopened around 1:30 a.m.

Assisting at the scene was Sugarloaf Township Police and Fire, Valley Regional Fire and Rescue and Lehigh Valley Health Network EMS.

Butler Township Police are continuing to investigate the cause and factors surrounding the crash.
