The Exchange Club of Palmerton announced Styles S. Butz, 621 Lafayette Avenue, Palmerton, as the recipient of its 1987 Golden Deeds Award.

Butz has served the community in many capacities since locating there in 1904, eight years before the borough was incorporated.

He and his wife, the late Ruth (Snyder) Butz, had two children, Nancy Eckert, deceased, and George S. Butz of Downingtown, five grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Among his many community involvements, Butz served on the Palmerton School Board; Palmerton Board of Trade; was a founding director of the Blue Ridge Cable and Television Company; owned and operated the Butz Lumber Company for many years; and donated all of the stone for the First United Church of Christ, where he gave generously towards the purchase of a new church organ.
