Tax rebate

The Pleasant Valley School District’s tax rebate program has been open for those who qualify since Feb. 1. It will continue through Dec. 31.

Required is a signed copy of 2025 PA-1000. Income must be below $46,520.

Anyone with questions can call 570-402-1000, ext. 1260.

The rebate is based on the balance of school taxes not reimbursed under the state’s program. Copies of paid school tax receipts must be supplied.

Scam alert

Rep. Jack Rader urges people to watch out for scams involving the Electronic Benefits Transfer benefits delivery system. He reminds all constituents that the state Department of Human Services has emphasized “it will never call or text an individual to request personal information.”

Rader also warned about investment scams on social media.

Earth Day Festival

The first-ever Earth Day Festival will take place at the West End Fairgrounds in Gilbert from Friday through Sunday.

The rain-or-shine, family-friendly event will feature live music, DJs, food trucks and a variety of vendors and crafters. There will also be a basket raffle and a marching band battle. The festival, which will use both indoor and outdoor spaces, will tentatively conclude with a fireworks display.

Hours are 5-10 p.m. Friday; 2-10 p.m. Saturday; and noon-7 p.m. Sunday. Those over age 11 must pay admission, but ages 10 and under will be admitted for free.

Anyone who brings a donation for the A.W.S.O.M. Animal Shelter or the Center for Animal Health & Welfare (Project Paw) will receive $1 off admission.

Consignment sale

Pocono Old-Tyme Farm Equipment Association is holding its 30th annual Consignment Sale on April 25 at the West End Fairgrounds in Gilbert, rain or shine.

Consignments will be accepted from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. April 23 and 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. April 24.

No items will be accepted on the day of the event.

The sale will take place “behind the fairgrounds,” said the group’s secretary, Cheryl Heckman, adding the following instructions: “Take Fairgrounds Road, turn onto County Park Road entrance to sale on left. Look for signs!”

The event opens at 9 a.m. and will include farm tractors, equipment, lawn and garden equipment, hay, straw, grain, lumber and more.

Chicken barbecue

Effort UMC is hosting its annual chicken barbecue dinner April 25.

Serving time is set for 3- 6:30 p.m. Preorders are being accepted.

Adult dinners feature half-chicken, baked potato, corn, applesauce or coleslaw, roll and dessert. For children (ages 3-11) dinner features quarter-chicken, baked potato, corn, applesauce or coleslaw, roll and dessert.

Turkey orders due

Salem-St. Paul Lutheran Church, Kresgeville, is offering turkey takeout dinners from 4-5:30 p.m. May 2. The platters feature turkey with gravy, filling, carrots, applesauce, roll and choice of cake.

Orders must be placed no later than Sunday by calling 570-688-5381.

Also being accepted are orders for pints or quarts of celery seed dressing.
