An 87-year-old man from Heidelberg Township was found deceased in the waters of Jordan Creek in North Whitehall Township on Tuesday.

According to the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office, William O. Arner was found facedown in the area beneath the Geiger Covered Bridge at 9:10 a.m. and pronounced dead.

An autopsy is scheduled to take place on Friday at the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office & Forensic Center to assist in determining the cause of death.

The coroner’s office said in its report that Arner reportedly had gone fishing, an activity he routinely enjoyed in an area with which he was familiar.

When he did not return home, family members became concerned and notified the Pennsylvania State Police.

The incident remains under investigation by the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office & Forensic Center and state police from the Bethlehem barracks.
