Local Roundup: Results from April 9
Northern Lehigh’s baseball team won its sixth straight game on Thursday, rolling past Notre Dame East Stroudsburg.
The Bulldogs’ softball team also picked up a win.
In addition to Nolehi, Northwestern gained wins in both baseball and softball action.
BASEBALL
Lehighton-Moravian
Cash White pitched a five-inning no-hitter to lead Lehighton to a 15-1 Colonial League victory over winless Moravian Academy.
Cole Dietz and Jayse Lawrence each collected three hits and two RBIs for the Indians. Braylon Hunsicker added a pair of hits and three RBIs, White added two hits, and Chase Llewellyn had two RBIs.
Lawrence ripped a two-run double that was part of a six-run second inning. Dietz and Lawrence each scored three runs.
White surrendered an unearned run, struck out four and walked two.

Brody Schrantz scattered five hits and struck out eight to help Jim Thorpe to a 11-0 shutout over Colonial League opponent Bangor.
Cole Lazorick had two hits and an RBI, Michael Antignani contributed two hits and two RBIs, and Zack Murphy knocked in three runs, two of them on a triple.
Antignani crossed the plate three times, and Schrantz, Lazorick and Noah Pastor each twice, as the Olympians won their third straight and posted their second straight shutout.
Bangor committed five errors.

Northwestern opened up a close game with a two-run fifth inning to push past Wilson 6-3 in a Colonial League tussle.
Cannon Fitch had a two-run double, and Ethan Konyak, Devin Rex and Luke Marazzo each collected two hits and an RBI, while Jake Carson and Tanner Fronina each added two hits.
Griffin Unrath gave up six hits and two runs over six innings with six strikeouts and one walk.

Marian-Mahanoy Area
Marian plated 10 runs in the bottom of the first, and the Colts rolled to a 15-0 Schuylkill League victory over Mahanoy Area.
Brayden Grant drove in three runs, and Noah Bauder, Jimmy Cannon and Jason Ashfield each knocked in two runs. The Colts piled up 10 walks and stole seven bases off Mahanoy, which lost its third straight.
Roman Bednarek issued two hits, struck out eight, and walked two in 3 2/3 innings.

Northern Lehigh-NDES
Northern Lehigh exploded for 13 runs in the first inning, and the Bulldogs sprinted to a 19-4 non-league victory over winless Notre Dame of East Stroudsburg for their sixth straight victory.
Chris Vargas belted a three-run homer in the first, and drove in five runs overall on two hits. Parker Schaffer had a pair of hits and drove in three runs, and Brayden Buskirk collected two hits and two RBIs. Chase Gall added a pair of RBIs.
Vargas, Schaffer, Beckett Fox, Drew Mohrey and Landen Cougle all scored two runs, and the Bulldogs drew 10 walks.

Pleasant Valley-Parkland
Parkland came back from a seventh-inning deficit to walk off Pleasant Valley 6-5 in EPC action.
The Bears opened the contest with a 4-0 lead after two innings, only for the Trojans to slowly chip away at the lead.
After PV picked up an insurance run in the top half of the seventh, Parkland rallied in the bottom portion with Ben Weninger hitting a two-run single to complete the comeback.
Gavin Bates and Mason Goff each went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs for the Bears.

Notre Dame of Green Pond rallied for three runs in the bottom of the sixth to edge Palmerton 5-3 as the Bombers dropped their third straight in a Colonial League battle.
Palmerton jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on Gaige McGowan’s sacrifice fly and Chase Wilson’s RBI single.
Wilson, who had two hits, pushed Palmerton ahead 3-2 in the top of the sixth on an RBI double.

Panther Valley battled back from an eight-run deficit, but fell short in a 11-8 Schuylkill League loss to Pine Grove.
The Panthers tallied five runs in the top of the seventh highlighted by Carson Jones’ two-run single. Gavin Yuricheck, who had two RBIs, and Kaden Koerbler each stroked RBI singles and the Panthers added a run on a wild pitch in the inning.
Jones had three RBIs, and Yuricheck, Koerbler, Danny Wehr and Brody Breiner, who had a double, each registered two hits. However, Panther Valley was hurt by seven errors.

Tri-Valley outslugged Tamaqua 13-8 in Schuylkill League action.
The Bulldogs opened things up with an early 7-0 advantage and eventually expanded their lead to 11-2 in the fifth.
The Raiders picked up three runs in both the fifth and seventh frames with Jake Yenser, Gavin Shannon and Gavin Edmonds each totaling two RBIs.
Jason Stewart, Gavin Klock and Riley Kaslavage all paced TV with three RBIs.

Bode Hinnershitz went 3-for-4 with five RBIs to lead the Hurricanes, while Chase Yoder and Chase Maley each added four RBIs.

Palmerton-Notre Dame GP
In a clash between two Colonial League heavyweights, Palmerton held on against Notre Dame and escaped with a 4-3 victory to remain undefeated.
Kyla Trumbore smashed a three-run home run in the third inning to break a scoreless tie for the Bombers, and Grace Schneider picked up an RBI ground out in the fourth, which proved to be the difference maker.
Trailing 4-1 with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, the Crusaders fought back with a two-run double from Casey Lagodney to cut the deficit to one run. Hailey George struck out the next batter to preserve the win for Palmerton.
Despite giving up 11 hits, George finished with 10 strikeouts in her seven innings of work.

Tegan Simms paced the Bulldogs, going 3-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs scored, while Kenzie Chrusical smashed a three-run triple.
Fiona Jones and Jaycie Longenbach both went 2-for-2 with two RBIs.

The Olympians picked up four hits, one each from Julianna Frantz, Ryan Confer, Kaylee Anderson and Gloria Strohl.

The Panthers’ only hit — a double — came from Isabella D’Ancona in the fifth.

PV’s Liam Angell earned a win at No. 3 singles, while the Bears’ tandems of Logan Krock/Noah Conklin and Gavin Tonkay/ Ben Jochen swept doubles play.

Morgan Orsulak won three events in a Schuylkill League meet with Mahanoy Area and Weatherly.
Orsulak took first in the long jump, triple jump and high jump.
The Wreckers’ Lexi Kehler and Kelly Reiner each captured two events. Kehler took both the 800 and 1600, while Reiner won both the discus and shot put.
PV’s Carlos Maldonado added a win in the shot put.
