Blue Bombers shut out Saucon Vy.

Palmerton rides the pitching of George and a solid offensive attack to register a 10-0 victory to remain undefeated

Palmerton’s softball team continues to ride a successful flight this season.

After coming off a noteworthy victory against Stroudsburg on Saturday, the Blue Bombers returned home on Wednesday to take on Saucon Valley.

Through the combination of offense by committee and the dominance of a freshman in the circle, the Palmerton cruised to a 10-0 win to remain undefeated.

“Every victory is a good victory; it doesn’t matter who you’re playing,” said Palmerton head coach Bob Hock. “Any time we can pick up a league victory, it’s a good move for the girls.”

If the Bombers hadn’t yet proved themselves to be a top threat in the district this season, they certainly did over the weekend.

The ballclub traveled to Stroudsburg and pulled off an impressive 2-1 victory against a Mountaineers squad that was also undefeated at the time.

For the Panthers, head coach Terry Csrenko found himself in a difficult position having to take on a tough opponent in the midst of a very condensed schedule that included a game on Tuesday.

“Unfortunately I have eight games in 13 days, so I rested my No. 1 pitcher, Matty Seyfried,” Csrenko said. “She leads the EPC and Colonial League in strikeouts with 65.”

Without its top pitcher, Saucon turned to freshman Nadiya Vutech. Despite her best effort, Palmerton managed to plate runs in every inning using just about everyone who was available.

RBIs from both Jaylin Strohl and Samantha Wolfe got things rolling for the Bombers in the first inning. Olivia Kalman came up in the second and added to the lead with an RBI single.

Palmerton’s largest scoring burst came in the third in the form of five consecutive singles to lead off the frame. The most impactful hit in the frame came from Wolfe, who knocked in two more runs to finish with a team-high three RBIs with her 2-for-4 outing.

The Bombers tallied another run in each of the next three innings to eventually send the Panthers home early. In total, nine Bombers earned hits — including five with multiple — while Tessa Sander went perfect at the dish going 4-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs.

On the defensive side, the day belonged to Palmerton freshman ace Hailey George. The young phenom possessed a mixture of velocity and accurate pitch location to keep Saucon batters off balance the entire way.

Through four innings of work, George racked up 11 strikeouts and allowed just two base runners via a hit and a walk.

“As a younger team who hasn’t seen anybody equivalent to that yet, this year was kind of a shock,” Csrenko said, complimenting George. “We’ll use it as a learning experience and move forward.”

During this current unbeaten streak, George’s success is a reflection of the youth that have made its way up from the Bombers’ JV squad and the contributions they’ve provided thus far this season.

“Our offense was really great, and my defense always backs me up,” George said. “I think the underclassmen are really comfortable. The seniors and upperclassmen were really good coming in and really supportive of us.”

Members of Palmerton’s team and coaching staff are pleasantly surprised how successful they’ve been almost halfway through the season. While coach Hock certainly wants to keep riding this wave for as long as possible, he also knows that the road gets increasingly more difficult after each victory.

“You always love winning, but the more you win, the bigger that bullseye gets on your back,” he said. “Everybody’s gunning for the teams that are on the top and undefeated, and take great pride in knocking teams off. We’ll just come out and continue to do what we’re doing and hopefully keep that streak going as long as we can.”

HITTING STARS ... Besides Sander and Wolfe, the Bombers also received strong performances from Jaylin Strohl, Grace Schneider and Mackenzie Ferber. The three all collected two hits, scored a run and had an RBI.

NO TIME OFF ... Both teams quickly get back on the field again today. The Bombers hit the road to take on Notre Dame-GP, while Saucon Valley travels up north to Pen Argyl.
