Palmerton is the latest municipality to review a draft zoning ordinance that would regulate data center development.

On a unanimous measure, borough council on Thursday agreed to refer a draft zoning ordinance amendment regarding data centers to the borough planning commission, as well as to the Carbon County Planning Commission, for review.

No other discussion on the topic took place during the meeting.

The borough joins a long list of area municipalities that are working on data center ordinances.

Last week, Franklin Township supervisors said they were nearing the finish line on its zoning ordinance, with an eye of regulating data center development.

Also last week, West Penn Township, after more discussion, opted to table any action as it continues to review a draft ordinance that would regulate data center development.
