Polk discusses proposed housing development

A lengthy discussion was held at the Polk Township supervisors meeting about sketch plans for Monte Bello Estates, planned off High Hill Road.

Engineer George Fetch and attorney Chris Brown presented two different plans that had gone before the Planning Commission, one with six houses and one with eight. The Planning Commission recommended making a through street where there is a cul-de-sac.

“We try not to take over roads,” noted Chair Brian Ahner.

The plan is for 1,800-square-foot, two-story homes with garages and side-by-side driveways.

Brown noted that “the preference is the original plan, which is four lots with minimal earth disturbance.”

The recommendation was made that board members would go to the site to look at it further and make a decision at the next meeting.

Other business:

• The township audit by Zelenkofske Axelrod “found no concerns or issues with the books.”

• Several township trucks were inspected, and eight tires were replaced on the triaxle truck. Street sweeping will begin on Monday in the developments.

• A resolution passed for the 2026 conference reimbursement, which will include registration fees, lodging and mileage. Itemized receipts will be needed and a $100 maximum will be given to supervisors for lost wages.

• The township will be looking into a grant for the pallet jack at the solid waste and recycling center. Residents will be reminded via letter that they can only go to the center one day a week.

• A resident questioned donations to Meals on Wheels and it was noted that the $750 donation was accidentally written twice. “There’s five organizations we donate to; it’s in the budget,” Ahner said.

• To date for March, the Polk Township Volunteer Fire Company reported 16 emergencies, 182 hours of training and 98 fundraising hours.

• The conditional use hearing for Altemose Hauling, which is seeking to put a contractor yard at 1124 Interchange Road, was continued.

• The Camp Harlem land development plan was tabled until the next meeting.
