Coaldale appoints new firm to enforce code

Coaldale has a new firm that will handle code enforcement issues.

Borough council hired Advanced Code Consultants of Sugarloaf Township, during Tuesday’s monthly meeting.

“We had a meeting a week or so ago with Advanced Code to do our code enforcement,” council President Rose Hoban explained.

Company representatives also spoke to council before the Tuesday meeting, she noted.

The appointment passed unanimously. Councilmen Wayne Figner and Matthew Jungbaer were absent.

After the vote, Gregory Kurtz of Advanced Code Consultants thanked council.

“We are so happy to be part of the team,” Kurtz said.

Borough secretary Kim Gavornik said she was aware of some residents who were “frustrated” by code enforcement issues.

“We’ve been trying our best to find the right people to help assist in getting our town cleaned up,” said Gavornik, a formal councilwoman.

Gavornik said Advanced Code Consultants have a “good system” and will tailor their help to the borough’s needs.

“In the next month, we’ll be working with them in the office to get them everything they need and put the protocols in place,” she said.

Gavornik said Advanced Code will tackle zoning, permits, quality of life issues and rental inspections.

Hoban noted that the firm had worked with Tamaqua, Beaver Meadows and other local municipalities.

“What we want them to do, they are going to take care of,” Hoban said. “We are going to get this cleaned up because there is a lot that needs to be done.”

Borough solicitor Robert Yurchak said he’s had experience with Advanced Code Consultants.

“They are very professional and persistent in what they do,” Yurchak said. “They don’t just do a notice of violation and let it go at that. They follow up with it.”

While Systems Design Engineering will no longer handle code enforcement, it will remain the borough’s engineer.
