Blessings Thrift Sale on Friday marks milestone

Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Tamaqua, will host its first Blessings Thrift Sale of 2026 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday.

The event marks an exciting milestone — the 50th Blessings sale. What began shortly before the pandemic has grown into a thriving ministry that continues to serve the community in meaningful ways.

Shoppers can browse gently used clothing for all ages, along with toys, books and a wide variety of household items. Blessings features items attractively displayed in department-store style, creating an organized and enjoyable shopping experience.

A limited takeout menu and homemade baked goods will also be available for purchase, and major credit cards are accepted.

In 2025, Blessings welcomed 1,493 shoppers to its monthly sales events. While many items are sold during sale days, Blessings operates as more than a monthly thrift sale. It also serves as a distribution hub, sharing additional donated goods with local organizations and service groups, and often providing items free of charge to individuals and families facing hardship.

Blessings also welcomes volunteers who can give just a few hours each month to help prepare for sale days. Volunteers assist by unpacking donated items, sorting and pricing merchandise, and arranging displays. Those who serve say they gain a strong sense of satisfaction from helping neighbors in need while being part of a caring and dedicated team.

At this time, donations are not being accepted. Those interested in donating in the future are asked to call the church office at 570-668-2180 and leave their information.

Blessings is an outreach ministry of the church at the corner of Greenwood and Mauch Chunk streets.
