State police at Hazleton
State police at the Hazleton barracks reported the following incidents:
• A 21-year-old Banks Township man is the victim of a theft by deception/ATM card incident reported to police at 9:56 a.m. Feb. 6.
The resident of East Maple Street, Tresckow, told police that someone used his debit account information on the Internet to defraud him of $281.36 on the Uber Eats app.
• Michael Quinn, 40, of Drums, was cited for harassment after police were called to 1437 Route 940, Hazle Township, at 4:12 p.m. Feb. 6.
Police said Samantha Giurca, 30, of Kelayres, told them Quinn made several statements directed to her that were harassing in nature, including threatening physical contact.
• Police were called to a reported theft at 10:04 a.m. Feb. 17 at a property on North Stagecoach Road, Lausanne Township.
A 32-year-old Weatherly man reported the theft of two plastic bags of wheat pennies.
Police said a representative of the Carbon County District Attorney’s Office declined to file charges in the case.
• A 79-year-old woman from Beaver Meadows had $3,000 stolen from her in a theft by deception incident reported at 9:38 a.m. Feb. 9 on North Church Street, Hazle Township.
She told police that she was contacted by someone impersonating an old friend who instructed her to take out loans from various financial institutions and made her believe she was receiving gifts of money. The woman then bought the person expensive gold jewelry and was instructed to ship it overseas, police said.
• A 17-year-old Tresckow boy and a 21-year-old Hazleton man were cited for harassment after police were called to a disturbance on East Oak Street, Banks Township, at 3 p.m. Feb. 19.
Police said it was determined each sent harassing messages to the other over a transaction.
