Dietz named to CL Boys First Team All-Star squad
Lehighton’s Cole Dietz was recently selected to the Colonial League Boys Basketball Coaches First Team.
Dietz, a senior who reached 1,000 career points early in the season, averaged 21.6 points per game during the regular season as the Indians posted a 13-9 overall record and a 10-8 mark in the league. The guard also knocked down 63 three-pointers.
No other area players made the First Team, although four were named to the Second Team.
Northwestern’s duo of Brady Krimmel and Mason Bollinger received Second Team status, as did Jim Thorpe’s Pierce Gothard and Northern Lehigh’s Kellen Bauer.
Bollinger finished regular season play with an average of 13.86 ppg for a Tiger team that was well-balanced and posted a record of 17-5 overall and 16-2 in the league. Krimmel, meanwhile, hit for 11.0 points per contest for Pat Wanamaker’s Northwestern squad.
Gothard helped the Olympians double their win total from a year ago, going from five last season to 10 — including a 9-9 league mark that qualified them for the district playoffs. Gothard tallied 19.0 points per game and was his team’s leading scorer in 15 of their 22 games.
Bauer reached 1,000 points this season during his junior year and finished with a scoring average of 18.41 ppg. He scored at least 30 points on two occasions and netted at least 20 in 10 of his team’s 22 contests.
A number of others players gained honorable mention status.
