Pets lost in Tamaqua house fire

No injuries were reported in a Sunday afternoon fire in Tamaqua.

The home at 114 Cherry St., however, is likely a total loss, according to Tamaqua assistant fire Chief Jason Hartz.

Hartz said crews were dispatched to the fire at 4:21 p.m. and found heavy flames showing.

An adult was at the property but was able to flee. No other residents were home at the time, he said.

Hartz said a cat and a guinea pig were lost in the fire.

Firefighters from all four Tamaqua fire companies brought the fire at the doublewide mobile home under control in about 20 minutes.

There was no insurance on the home, he said.

According to Hartz, the fire likely originated from a space heater that was positioned too close to combustible materials.

The Panther Valley RIT and Tamaqua Ambulance also responded.
